What is Buffalo Milk?
We drink a lot of Buffalo Milk on Catalina Island, but it's not the kind of Buffalo Milk that you might think of. A little known fact: Catalina Island is home to a herd of bison, also known as the American buffalo. Twelve head of bison were brought to the island in the 1920s for the filming of Zane Grey's book adaption of the Vanishing American. Over the years the herd has expanded and thinned, leaving us with about 150 permanent residents.

How do you get to Catalina Island?
You can take a passenger ferry from Newport Beach, Dana Point, Long Beach or San Pedro. You can also fly over via private plane or sail over on a private boat. Catalina Island’s Airport in the Sky sits on a mountaintop, 1,602 feet above sea level.
Do you need a car on Catalina Island?
Most visitors and residents get around the island by foot, bike or golf cart.

When is a good time to visit Catalina Island?
During summer months, the average high hovers around 72 degrees F, while the average low is around 65 degrees F. During winter months, the average high is 63 degrees F and the average low is 50 degrees F. Catalina receives an average of 12 inches of precipitation a year, with January being the wettest month.

When is the best time to go to Catalina Island?
